About the entity:
The Legal Practice Council is a national, statutory body established in terms of section 4 of the Legal Practice Act, No 28 of 2014.  The Council regulate the affairs of and exercise jurisdiction over all legal practitioners (attorneys and advocates) and candidate legal practitioners.

Opportunity:
The Legal Practice Council (LPC) is currently embarking on a process to fill a Auditor: Risk & Compliance position in its Western Cape Provincial Offices.

Minimum Appointment Requirements:

  • Matric/Grade 12 Certificate
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Auditing (NQF 7) and 2 years auditing experience
  • Membership in the professional body i.e. Institute of Internal Auditors SA and relevant certification i.e. Certified Fraud Examiner or Certified Professional Accountant or Certified Internal Auditor will be an added advantage
  • Knowledge of Accounting principles; Legal Practice Act, No 28 of 2014
  • Code of Conduct for all Legal Practitioners, Candidate Legal Practitioners and Juristic Entities and Rules of the LPC

Key responsibilities:

  • Conduct investigations on legal practitioners’ Trust accounts (Assess all available information and documentation
  • Assess accounting requirements
  • Assess general status and affairs
  • Review accuracy of audit reports
  • Identify any areas of irregularity, misappropriation and fraud
  • Prepare accounting records where no records exist)
  • Form a professional opinion on investigation findings
  • Ensure investigations are carried out within the allocated timeframe
  • Maintain records of investigations undertaken
  • Maintain records of decisions made by the Disciplinary Committee, Court or Council
  • Prepare status reports
  • Attend to telephonic enquiries from legal practitioners
  • Attend to consultations with legal practitioners
  • Provide expert testimony at Disciplinary hearings
  • Advise legal practitioners on current rulings and guidelines
  • Assist with queries from auditors/accountants pertaining to the audit report and attorneys annual statements and staff supervision
