Governance and Livelihoods Agenda (AgendaGL) was founded in 2015. AgendaGL is a dynamic NGO that aims to contribute towards uplifting communities’ livelihoods by nurturing the leader in each child and woman. We believe that individuals with independent and transformed minds are leaders capable of bringing about positive change for themselves and those around them. This is possible with quality and relevant support in a safe and enabling environment. AgendaGL also engages with systems of governance in ensuring that they are responsive and accountable to those they govern and the governed have the capacity to effectively hold such to account. AgendaGL is one of the partner organizations implementing a national programme aimed at strengthening community-centric violence mitigation and conflict management; and to contribute towards strengthening social cohesion.

Governance and Livelihoods Agenda is seeking to employ a bookkeeper and four programme officers to be based in Ethekwini, KwaZulu-Natal Province.

Commencement Date: 2nd January, 2022
Employment Type:  Fixed Term Contract
Remuneration: Market related



The incumbent for the position must be someone who has the ability to;

  • process Cashbook, Invoices and Journals
  • accurately perform Bank reconciliation and petty cash reconciliation (Weekly)
  • prepare Full Debtors and Creditors function
  • process Returns & Discounts
  • prepare monthly account reconciliations & matching.
  • process creditor’s payments monthly
  • understand and complete account processing from General Ledger to Trail Balance
  • record financial transactions and write reports.


  • A matric and post matric qualification in Bookkeeping
  • Proven bookkeeping experience of more than 3years preferably in NGO environment
  • Demonstrable experience of basic bookkeeping and accounting payable/receivable principles
  • Proven ability to calculate, post and manage accounting figures and financial records
  • Proven data entry experience.
  • Demonstrable experience with spreadsheets and Pastel Accounting
  • Able to work independently and/or as part of a team
  • Demonstrable attention to detail / accuracy



The incumbent for the position must be someone who;

  • Has a clear track record in community facilitation, community development, conflict resolution and youth development.
  • Has the ability to plan and execute project plans independently.
  • Has a strong work ethic, is proactive and takes initiative
  • Ability to work within a multi-cultural team;
  • Must be an isiZulu speaker.
  • Is highly energetic, sociable and approachable; and
  • Has a high level of emotional maturity


  • A Diploma with 5-years’ experience working in communities or a university degree in the Social Sciences, Conflict Management and Development or any other related qualification
  • Demonstrable experience on community facilitation and conflict management
  • Demonstrable interest in community development work
  • High level of computer literacy
  • Ability to write reports of high quality
  • Drivers’ license (own vehicle an advantage)
