The Faircape Group operates 6 high end retirement/lifestyle villages in the Western Cape. Locations of these estates are in Noordhoek, Kirstenhof, Tokai, Somerset West and Onrus.


We are looking for a Chef to take charge of a shift in the kitchen at Heritage Manor in Somerset West

Reporting to the Group Chef and taking full control of the kitchen (preparation, safety and hygiene, staff management), the job duties include, but is not limited to the following:

Meal Preparation and Presentation

  • Control cooking of all food from preparation to presentation
  • Safety procedures
  • Equipment usage
  • Following meal specifications

Staff management and training 

  • Control all subordinate staff
  • Ensure staff follows procedures correctly
  • Ensure that all staff is trained on the required policies and procedures
  • Ensure that all staff is trained on all cooking methods needed to perform their job
  • Ensure that all staff is training on how to use the equipment correctly and safely

Stock control 

  • Printing specs
  • Following specs
  • FIFO
  • Wastage control
  • Assisting in stock takes
  • Labelling of all items as per procedure


Health and safety

  • High standards of food hygiene
  • Ensure GMP and documentation is up to date
  • Ensure entire kitchen is clean and hygienic
  • Ensure daily and weekly cleaning schedules are adhered to
  • Attend monthly health and safety meeting

Administrational duties and reporting 

  • Daily paperwork
  • Check sheets
  • Weekly chefs report

Coffee Shop & Café fridge

  • Quality of café product
  • Baking of café goods
  • Monitoring and management of the café fridge

Chef’s diploma / qualification from a registered tertiary education provider

Experience and knowledge
At least 2 years work experience in similar environment

Skills and Attributes:

  • Proven leadership skills – proven experience in management of kitchen staff
  • Strong knowledge of proper food handling procedures
  • Strong knowledge of GMP practices
  • Able to work as part of a team in a busy kitchen atmosphere
  • Knowledge of various cooking and baking techniques and methods
  • Ability to follow all sanitization procedures
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Strong administration skills
  • Excellent physical condition and stamina
  • Clear health record required


Working hours: You will be required to work 16.25 shifts per month, according to the roster, from 07h00 to 19h00, Monday to Sunday. Need to be flexible to accommodate the standby procedure of the company

Salary from R 22,000 Cost to Company per month.
