Job Purpose

SunBet as the online sports betting division of Sun International will lead the alternative gaming strategy and delivery of business objectives, providing thought leadership and advice on measuring product performance, revenue growth, operational governance and service standards, as well as building strategic relationships and partnerships with key stakeholders; and leading the integration of online sports betting projects into operations. 

The Events Manager for SunBet will be responsible to be the primary contact for the successful planning, co-ordination and delivery of all high volume, large-scale and special events for the SunBet brand across the business, with the objectives of creating new footfall and a public image that contributes to the reputation of SunBet as the sports betting brand of choice. This will include building relationships with sponsors and ensuring the implementation and delivery of sponsorship agreements.


  • 3-year Diploma in Event/Marketing Management
  • Certification in project management is an advantage


  • Minimum of 6 years€™ experience including 4 years in an events management role

Key Performance Areas:

1.  Planned SunBet Events

  • Facilitate the planning and co-ordination of logistical arrangements for the delivery of SunBet events in line with the event itinerary i.e transport, accommodation, food& beverage with relevant stakeholders and departments across the business unit
  • Conduct site inspections of venues and facilities
  • Have an up-to-date understanding of facilities and products available for events and conferencing
  • Understand sponsorship contracts and deliverables
  • Attend pre-event meetings and work with business operations and sponsors to understand event opportunities and solutions
  • Offer solutions in line with business requirements and facilitate these with third party suppliers including menus, décor, flowers, set-up, music, etc. where required
  • Monitor billing instructions for the event on the function sheets, and track expenses
  • Compile function sheets and distribute to relevant stakeholders and departments
  • Record all correspondence from a company perspective to ensure brand is maintained
  • Resolve any problems and queries in accordance with contract stipulations, and escalate when required

2.  Delivered SunBet Events

  • Compile the running order schedule to accurately reflect event itinerary
  • Check that the venue set up meets technical (lighting, sound) requirements
  • Check the set-up requirements for entertainment, catering, décor, etc. in line with requirements and facilitate any necessary changes with relevant operations stakeholders (e.g. F&B, Banqueting, Entertainment, etc) at least 1 hour prior to start of event.
  • Log calls with maintenance or IT to ensure resolution of any technical faults
  • Communicate regularly with relevant stakeholders and relevant departments with regards potential problems, challenges and changes
  • Escalate any issues / challenges being experienced
  • Update any final amendments to function sheets and ensure the distribution to all event stakeholders.
  • Complete post event administration including: event information documents, arena attendance figures and billing

3.  Special Events Programme Planning

  • Determine the objectives, measures and milestones for the delivery of the special events viz NGC tournament
  • Create a detailed work plan and schedule which identifies and sequences the activities needed to successfully complete the project including the allocation of resources at a resort level
  • Review the work plan and schedule with senior management and all other staff that will be affected by the activities; revise the schedule as required
  • Identify stakeholders external and internal to the organisation and design a governance structure for the program to optimise communication and decision-making
  • Communicate programme objectives and plans with key stakeholders across the business
  • In collaboration with the operating teams and executives, facilitate key decisions, and exercise operational control in mobilising team plans
  • Plan and facilitate logistical arrangements for special events planning meetings
  • Book and confirm all venue holds
  • Book and confirm staffing requirements and staffing accommodation
  • Consolidate all requirements from sponsors, suppliers and operators.
  • Confirm final orders and confirm PO€™s with suppliers and sponsors; as well as delivery schedules based on plans
  • Compile and print sponsor files, packs and booklets for sponsor briefing sessions
  • Consolidate all vehicle access for suppliers, sponsors and operators, ensuring these are arranged before-hand with security
  • Consolidate and update all accreditation requirements for suppliers, sponsors and operators based on restricted access areas for each staff member
  • Monitor and control programme (solution delivery) and operations progress against plan throughout the project life cycle, ensuring there are sufficient control measures and checks to mitigate any risks to the business 
  • Prepare for review meetings to report on progress against milestones
  • Set up electronic files to ensure that all information is appropriately documented, updated and secured including developing forms and records to document project activities
  • Trouble shoot and support the teams by providing insights on resolving barriers, risks and opportunities that may impact the business
  • Report to Management and operating team on progress, with specific reference to cost and programme.
  • Deal with and resolve escalated issues outside the control of each project to ensure obstacles are removed and results are achieved.

4.  NGC Set-up and Breakdown

  • Co-ordinate the build and set-up of the tournament structures
  • Facilitate orientation meetings with all sponsors and suppliers including a walkabout of the course layout, and set-up areas
  • Co-ordinate the delivery of equipment  and requirements
  • Email each supplier their supplier packs
  • Co-ordinate the delivery and set-up of equipment
  • Co-ordinate and monitor the breakdown of all equipment and requirements
  • Conduct a reconciliation of all damages and losses to equipment including supplier equipment against delivery allocation (numbers and condition)
  • Co-ordinate and sign off on all supplier collection documents

5.  Stakeholder Engagement

  • Communicate with sponsors, suppliers and operators to understand their needs, event opportunities, as well as any challenges encountered during the planning and co-ordination of the event
  • Collaborate with management team and facilitate and participate in meetings with Sponsors, suppliers and operating teams to plan the new tournament based on previous lessons learnt
  • Communicate with suppliers / contractors with regards requirements for specific events, leveraging relationships to optimise the event within the set budget
  • Partner with suppliers and local SMME€™s in design and delivery of the event and tournament requirements respectively
  • Liaise with multiple departments in the co-ordination and execution of conferencing and events including F&B, security, gaming, etc.
  • Liaise with operating teams to evaluate the post-mortem of the event and make recommendations for future implementation
  • Support and assist the Management team in maintaining event standards, making recommendations to improve the events offering and pricing.
  • Proactively builds relationships with clients to ensure a successful event, customer satisfaction and return business.
