Soccer Laduma has an exciting opportunity for a dynamic International  Journalist. The successful candidate will be enlisted to write for the Soccer Laduma newspaper and digital platforms, showing the required command of short form and long form journalism. The successful candidate will work closely with the editors of the newspaper as well as the content manager and editor of the digital platforms to craft content that is in line with the editorial direction that has been set out.

 

Minimum Requirements:

  • Completed a degree or diploma in English, journalism or media studies, or demonstrate the ability to deliver on the expectations.
  • Must have a sound knowledge of international football.
  • A requirement is to watch football very regularly and be up to date with the latest developments in football.
  • Strong digital skills.
  • Passion for international football and a knowledge of clubs, leagues and players.
  • Understanding of media law and be able to adhere to the Press Code.

Duties & Responsibilities include but not limited to:

 Long form print 

  • The journalist will be expected to submit a defined number of interviews and/ or features for the print edition on a rotation cycle.
  • The interviews and/ or features would need to be written within the publication’s style guide and adhere to the editorial structures laid out by the publication or as defined by the editor.
  • Working closely with the editor.
  • Emphasis is placed on deadlines.

Web articles

  • The journalist will be required to write a minimum prescribed quantity of articles in order to achieve the weekly page view targets and in turn the monthly and yearly overall page view targets.
  • Articles must be written within the publication’s style guide and adhere to the editorial structures laid out by the publication or as defined by the editor.
  • Journalists will be required to work closely with the content manager.
  • Emphasis is placed on deadlines.

Functional tasks:

  • Adhering to internal editorial work flows and internal communications.
  • Proficient in working on Word, Excel, Outlook and the native content management system.
  • Possessing a deep understanding and being skilled on all social media platforms.

Originating:

  • Competent in pitching of content.
  • Designing content recipes in line with the editorial approach.
  • Develop and innovating content concepts.

Reporting/ Admin:

  • Be capable of reading and interpreting reports.
  • Drawing up and submitting reports within specified frequencies.
  • Media 24 tutorials to be completed in line with Media 24’s requirements.
  • Development and up-skilling of the journalist through internal or external sources, if requested by the publication. eg, My Academy.
  • Working hours: Flexi hours is an option, on approval by management and/or the editor.
