Applications are invited from suitably qualified individuals for the above-mentioned position to be based in Gaborone. The purpose of the position is to strategically lead a dynamic team, ensuring the financial and operational success of Distell Botswana Ltd.



Key Performance Areas include, but are not limited to:


Strategic Management:

Ensure that Company strategies and policies are aligned with marketing, sales, production and customer requirements to realise the business objectives and service levels
Develop strategic relationships with Governmental authorities
Ensure statutory compliance in all business related matters/risk and governance
Close liaison between Distell SA and Distell Botswana, with external auditors, banking, government and insurance institutions
Establish effective and winning trading relationships

Business Management and Commercial Management:

Deliver top-line and EBIT profitability targets and generates sustainable cash flows through well managed Company business plans
Develop a business plan in line with the divisional plan

Ensure the implementation and smooth running of Business planning and EPMS processes in the region
Interact with support services H/O and ensure SLA’s (Service Level Agreements) are actively managed


Sales and Marketing and brand strategy management:

Develop and implement in-market brandcrafting plans, and builds local marketing capability
Provide local input required for new product development process


Operational: Importation, Production, Logistics and Distribution:

Manage relationships with Business Partner and Distributors

Manage contract with Business Partner
Ensure distributor is performing against contract
Monitor production of Distell brands (production schedule, bulk dry goods, etc.)
Ensure forecasting system in place and optimum stock-levels are maintained
Develop and manage OPEX and CAPEX budgets for the business


Sales execution:

Manage Sales force and Business Partner against rate-of-sales and distribution targets
Manage adherence to pricing policies
Ensure optimum product availability by actively participating in forecasting and stock level management
Ensure adherence to marketing strategy by Sales force, Business Partner and Marketing agency
Negotiate sales listing and promotional cycle programmes with regional groups and major accounts
Manage relationship with key accounts
Establish and manage merchandising strategy, targets and execution



Ensure that staff are productively managed

Ensure that organisational structures are optimised
Ensure that all staff adhere to staffing policies and procedures
Maintain sound Industrial Relations and discipline within all sectors of the region


Risk Management:

Ensure that the Company complies with the risk management policy



Experience and Skills required:

The incumbent should have at least 5 – 10 years managerial experience with the emphasis on sales and marketing, commerce, and supply chain
A Degree in Commerce, Business Administration or Supply Chain
Post Graduate qualification will be an added advantage
Proven computer literacy (MS Office & SAP packages)
A valid driver’s license
Applied knowledge of Botswana’s statutory legislation and Employment Act
Excellent numerical aptitude and analytical abilities are essential
Detail orientated nature with exceptional leadership skills
High versatility to adapt to changing environment is required
Good analytical skills and the ability to interpret financial and statistical data
Ability to manage people with diverse cultural backgrounds
Financial/ business skills and judgement
Tactical implementation of business plan, budgeting and reporting
Strong decision making ability
Creative problem solving ability
The ability to manage without constant supervision and take full responsibility for the Company’s success
