Do you have what it takes to work for Food For Mzansi as Africa’s best digital news start-up? We are a two-year-old vertical focused on agricultural news. Yes, we unashamedly salute the previously unsung heroes of agriculture. We love South Africa. We don’t do drama or corporate hogwash. We don’t fuss about stuff, although we do believe that attention to detail is key when it comes to business. We love winning too. And we, especially, love great journalism.

We’re looking for an intern to:

  • produce newsworthy stories that are well researched, accurate, balanced, well written and ready for publication on our website and related social media and other channels;
  • produce podcasts, videos and pictures for all our platforms;
  • generate ideas for unique story packages and reader engagement;
  • turn often mundane subjects into powerful, SEO-friendly content;
  • effectively manage stakeholder relationships;
  • be an all-rounder who can immerse themselves in the Food For Mzansi brand and mission;
  • research, investigate and dig into a wide range of topics.

To flourish, you’ll need a wide range of creative capabilities, including:

  • an interest in the agricultural and/or health sectors and a love for Mzansi;
  • the ability to think creatively and translate ideas into great copy, audio, video and social media;
  • experience in writing strong, succinct copy that is grammatically correct;
  • a flexible approach and willingness to adapt ideas to the needs of stakeholders;
  • great organisational skills and an eye for detail;
  • strong research and interviewing skills;
  • a valid driver’s license and willingness to travel nationwide for stories;
  • the willingness to be mentored, developed and challenged; and
  • live within travel distance from Paarl, Western Cape or have high-speed, reliable internet access.
