The Federated Employers Mutual Assurance Company (RF) Proprietary Limited (FEM) was established as a mutual insurer in 1936 and on the introduction of the Workmen’s Compensation Act 1941, was granted a license to continue to transact workmen’s compensation insurance for the building and construction industry. This insurance compensates employees or their dependents following an injury arising from an occupational accident and illness occasioned by industrial diseases. FEM’s operations are essentially confined to the insurance of employers in the building and construction industry against their liabilities under the Compensation for Occupational Injuries and Diseases Act 1993 (COIDA). FEM operates under license from the Minister of Employment and Labour and is also registered as a non-life insurer.
FEM is looking to appoint a Rehabilitation Authorizer to provide support to the Medical Services and Claims department by providing rehabilitation and reintegration services. The successful candidate will be responsible for the preauthorisation for all cases that require occupational therapy and physiotherapy in line with our internal protocols. Furthermore, the successful candidate will compile, evaluate, and review rehabilitation programmes that consider the nature of the injury, the level of care, the length of treatment and the desired outcomes.
The position requires the successful incumbent to have experience in disability management as well as experience in applying clinical knowledge to proactively mitigate the risk of over servicing whilst ensuring cost savings and quality care in terms of the COID Act and other relevant guidelines.
The minimum requirements of the position are a degree in physio and occupational therapy, and any equivalent rehabilitation qualification with active registration with the respective regulatory professional body. The position requires the incumbent to have functional computer literacy as well as an excellent performance track record. Knowledge of the COID Act and workman’s compensation will be a distinct advantage.
A minimum of 2 to 3 years’ experience in a related environment with the ability to demonstrate excellent customer focus, the ability to work in a highly pressurized environment, quality orientation, reliability and excellent communication skills complete our requirements.
