Main purpose of the position:

To control the movement of archive material in and out of the storage area through issuing, receiving and shelving actions, ensure material is returned timeously thus also ensure a secure storage space through controlled client access ; assist with the preservation of archive material through transferring and logging activities.

 

Key Accountabilities:

•           Drawing, issuing, receiving and shelving of News and Actuality content.

•          Effective operational usage of Archives tape management system.

•           Follow-up with clients when incorrect or damaged tapes are returned and provide feedback to line manager with each incident.

•           Perform stock checks and counts e.g. the correct shelving of tapes.

•           Perform general maintenance of storage area and tape content.

•           Assist with the creation of unique and innovative barcodes for all new news bulletins and programmes.

•           Perform inventory task.

•           Perform monthly labelling of all news broadcast and foreign news agency tapes.

•           Perform transferring duties: diary material, other news/current affairs material and older format material – monitor quality and upheld high standard of quality throughout transferring process.

•           Viewing sport tapes, time code events and perform shotlisting of sport events.

  • Be involved with archival projects.
  • Ensure adherence to SABC TV News Archives SOP’s and Archiving standards, SABC Archive Policy, SLA’s, South African Broadcasting Act, South African National Archival Act, Copyright Act and industry best practice.

Requirements:

 

•           National Senior Certificate or equivalent

•           National Diploma in the relevant field

•           At least 3 years relevant experience

•           Computer literacy –Microsoft Office; Word and Excel; Microsoft Outlook.

•           Digital Archiving knowledge.

•           ENPS or applicable broadcasting software
